SPECTRA

Like rain clouds breaking up visible sunlight to form a rainbow (or spectrum) of colors, Spitzer's Infrared Spectrometer (IRS) breaks infrared light into its wavelengths. Within spectra, astronomers can study features which are the fingerprints of atoms and molecules.
